The Thread isn't just a space for exhibition—it's a community of thoughtful visitors who bring their own perspectives to each display. This gallery features selected responses from our members and shows how examining others' lives helps us make sense of our own.

On Digital Connection vs. Human Contact

"What I find missing from social media platforms is really connecting with seeing one's eyes to see that they may be hurting, lonely, or angry. Even though these platforms can be beneficial when used correctly, shutting out the noise of negativity can be beneficial to one's overall mental health. We need to get back to the basics of in-person human contact."

— Denise W., on the Digital Footprints exhibition

On Uncovering Hidden Stories

"I look forward to your newsletter every week! The piece on women's crossroads really resonated with me, especially Jean Harley's story about building institutions without credit. My grandmother did similar unrecognized work. Thank you for bringing these stories to light!"

— Audrey, Thread Café supporter

On Intergenerational Connection

"Mom shared your newsletter with me, and I'm excited to read your work."

— Teresa, Thread Café supporter

On Our Museum Format

"The Thread has truly blossomed into a beautiful piece of work. I am excited to see how this innovative concept will continue to grow and enhance the lives of so many people across the world!"

— Ashley C.

On Legacy & Personal Reflection

"The virtual experience has been amazing! Each week, I see the value in celebrating the lives and accomplishments of those who transition. Reading the stories has caused me to examine my own life and to ponder the legacy I desire to live."

— Thread Café supporter

The Thread is pleased to announce several special exhibitions in our upcoming calendar. Each has been carefully developed to explore the connections between seemingly unrelated lives and what they reveal about living with intention.

APRIL: THE BUSINESS OF DYING 💼

Our April exhibitions examine the emerging industry of digital afterlives—companies creating AI replicas of the deceased to preserve their voices, memories, and wisdom. Through case studies including a terminally ill software designer preparing his digital twin and a son who still speaks weekly with his mother five years after her death, we'll explore how technology is transforming our relationship with mortality. This Easter season, we'll examine a very different kind of resurrection.

A stylized AI-generated image of a skeleton seated amidst torn money and financial debris. The skeleton is prominently displayed in white against a turquoise background with areas of peeling orange paint. U.S. dollar bills are scattered throughout the composition, some whole and some torn. The imagery creates a striking visual metaphor about mortality and wealth, suggesting themes related to 'The Business of Dying' exhibition mentioned in the newsletter. The contrasting colors of white skeleton, turquoise background, and orange accents create a visually compelling composition.

MAY: MATERNAL DNA 🧬

For Mother's Day, we're exploring the scientific discovery that mothers physically carry their children's cells in their bodies for decades after birth. This phenomenon, called microchimerism, offers a powerful metaphor for the lasting biological connection between mother and child.

👩‍👧Alongside this scientific lens, we'll explore how maternal relationships shape our stories and legacies, featuring reflections on mothers facing mortality alongside their children and the stories that remain untold between mothers and daughters.

SUMMER PREVIEW ☀️

Later this season, look for special exhibitions including "Class of 2000: A Quarter-Century Later," where your curator Ethan Ward examines his own 25-year high school reunion through the lens of obituary analysis.

🎓 How do we remember classmates who've passed? What patterns emerge in lives that began in the same hallways but ended in vastly different circumstances? And what might our own former classmates say about us someday?
